Description
Minims Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (Phenylephrine) is an ophthalmic mydriatic agent. It is typically used to dilate the pupils (the black circle in the center of the iris of the eyes). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Minims Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (Phenylephrine) is typically used by instilling 1 drop every 3 to 5 minutes as needed (maximum dose: 3 drops per eye). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Wash your hands before and after application. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip on eyelids or other surfaces when placing drops in the eyes. Pull your lower eyelid down gently, and then carefully place 1 drop inside your lower eyelid. Close your eye and blink a few times to make sure your eye is covered by the liquid. Close the eyelids. It is advisable to press gently on the inner corner of your eyelid for 3 minutes. This will help stop the solution from draining into your nose and throat. Throw away the Minims unit, even if some solution remains. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Topical ophthalmic phenylephrine may contain a preservative that can discolor soft contact lenses. Patients should remove contacts prior to drop instillation and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion. Some people find bright light (such as daylight) uncomfortable for a few hours. This may make it difficulty for you to drive. The 10% should not be used in infants <1 year of age. Use caution when using 10% solution in children <5 years of age. Significant blood pressure elevation has been reported with Minims Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (Phenylephrine). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to phenylephrine hydrochloride or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of hypertension (high blood pressure), or thyrotoxicosis (an excess of thyroid hormone in the body, produced by the thyroid gland in the neck). Do not use in infants younger than 1 year of age. Taking Minims Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (Phenylephrine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby.
