Description
Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone) is an opiate antagonist. It is usually used to treat someone who has overdosed on opioids. It can be used by anyone to reverse the effects of the overdose until medical help arrives. It may also have other uses.

Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone) is typically used as 1 dose in the nose only. Each Narcan device contains only 1 dose and cannot be reused.Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Narcan is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Always call 911 before administering the dose. Give a second dose after 2 to 3 minutes if the person has not woken up or their breathing is not improved. Alternate nostrils with each dose. You can give a dose every 2 to 3 minutes, if more are available and are needed. WARNING: Before administering Narcan Nasal Spray, call 911 for emergency medical help. Do this immediately if you suspect or are aware of an opioid overdose. Make sure to watch the person who received Narcan. You may need to give additional doses until emergency medical help arrives. The patient may have a reaction such as becoming aggressive, shaking and/or vomiting. You will need to pay special attention when giving Narcan to a newborn who is less than four weeks old or a pregnant woman. Some of these reactions can be lifethreatening for a newborn or a fetus. In addition to its desired action, Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause swelling or dryness in the nose, congested or runny nose. It may cause yawning, nervousness, pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal cramps. It may cause aggressive behaviors, irritability, restlessness, agitation. It may cause an increase in the blood pressure or heart rate, sweating, fever, weakness, dizziness, or headaches. It may cause seizures, shaking, or muscle spasms. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to naloxone hydrochloride or any component of the formulation. Taking Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Narcan Nasal Spray should only be used in pregnant women when clearly needed.Narcan Nasal Spray (Naloxone)
