Description

Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen) is an antiestrogen agent. It is typically used to treat certain types of breast cancers that depend on estrogen to grow and survive (hormone responsive or estrogen receptor positive breast cancer). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen) is typically given once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It may be taken with or without meals. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Tamoxifen may cause changes in bone mineral density or BMD (amount of bone mineral, mainly calcium, found in the bones), depending on menstrual status. In postmenopausal women, Tamoxifen has a protective effect on BMD. In premenopausal women, Tamoxifen may reduce BMD which may increase the risk of fractures. Tamoxifen may increase the chance of developing certain types of uterine (womb) cancers. This medication may increase the chance of developing blood clots in the lungs or legs.

In addition to its desired action, Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause cataracts (clouding of the lens of your eye), or an increase in blood pressure (hypertension).
It may cause bone pain, changes in menstrual period, hot flushes, or genital itching.
It may cause weight loss, partial hair loss or thinning, swelling of the feet, ankles, or lower leg, tiredness or weakness.
It may cause nausea and vomiting, headache, taste alterations, muscle or joint pain.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Tamoxifen or any component of the formulation. People who are taking Warfarin or have a history of deep vein thrombosis (clots in the legs) or pulmonary embolism (clots in the lungs) should not use Tamoxifen when it is used to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Taking Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Nolvadex D (Tamoxifen)
