Description
Nozinan (Methotrimeprazine) is a neuroleptic agent. It is typically used for the management of insomnia, sedation, the management of nausea and vomiting and the management of pain and psychotic disorders such as acute and chronic schizophrenia (serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Nozinan (Methotrimeprazine) is typically taken in three to four divided doses. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. May be administered by deep injection into a large muscle. May administer smaller doses during day and higher doses at night if pronounced sedation occurs. Patients should remain lying down for ≥1 hour (to reduce risk of hypotension, low blood pressure). May be administered subcutaneously (under the skin). WARNING: This medication increases the risk of death in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality). In addition to its desired action, Nozinan (Methotrimeprazine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure), prolonged QT interval on ECG (cardiac rhythm abnormalities), pulmonary embolism (clot) It may cause a dermatological reaction (allergic skin reaction, skin photosensitivity) It may cause decreased glucose tolerance, diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia (high glucose levels), hyponatremia (low sodium levels), weight gain It may cause constipation, necrotizing enterocolitis, xerostomia (dry mouth) Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to methotrimeprazine, phenothiazines (chlorpromazine, fluphenazine) or any component of the formulation, hepatic (liver) disease, hematologic disorders (blood problems) Taking Nozinan (Methotrimeprazine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Nozinan (Methotrimeprazine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
