Description
Olestyr Regular (Cholestyramine) is a cholesterol-lowering agent. It is typically used to lower high levels of cholesterol in the blood, especially low-density lipoprotein LDL (“bad” cholesterol). It may also have other uses.

Olestyr Regular (Cholestyramine) is typically used one to six times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. This drug is administered orally and should not be taken in its dry form. Always mix the powder with water or other fluids before ingestion. WARNING: Wait at least 4 to 6 hours after taking cholestyramine before you take any other medications. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. In addition to its desired action, Olestyr Regular (Cholestyramine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause edema (swelling that is caused by fluid trapped in your body's tissues), syncope (loss of consciousness). It may cause hypersensitivity reactions, headache, fatigue, abdominal pain. It may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to similar agents or any component of the formulation, complete biliary obstruction (the blockage of any duct that carries bile- fluid produced by the liver -). Taking Olestyr Regular (Cholestyramine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
