Description
Olumiant (Baricitinib) is an antirheumatic agent. It is typically used alone or in combination with other medications to reduce the signs and symptoms of moderate to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints). It may also have other uses.

Olumiant (Baricitinib) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. You may take Olumiant with or without food. Patients who are unable to swallow the whole tablet may chew it. Ensure that the entire dose is swallowed. The tablet may be dispersed in a small amount (5 to 10 mL) of liquid (water, whole milk, green tea, miso soup) and will disperse in less than 5 minutes. A small amount of food may be added to the liquid mixture, the entire mixture should be consumed at one time. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Patients receiving Baricitinib are at increased risk for serious infections, which may result in hospitalization and/or fatality. These infections often develop in patients receiving concomitant immunosuppressive agents (reduce the activity of the immunity) such as Methotrexate or corticosteroids. Infections may include tuberculosis (a bacterial infection), fungal infections as well as infections caused by bacteria and viruses. This medication may increase the chance of blood clot formation, causing reduction of blood flow to organs or the extremities. Live vaccines (vaccines using a weakened form of the germ that causes a disease) should not be given to Patients taking Olumiant (Baricitinib). In addition to its desired action, Olumiant (Baricitinib) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause back pain, joint pain, or muscle pain. It may cause cold sores, or acne. It may cause cold symptoms, sore throat, or infections. It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or headache. It may cause gas/flatulence (gas), or indigestion. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Baricitinib or any component of the formulation. Taking Olumiant (Baricitinib) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Olumiant (Baricitinib) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Olumiant (Baricitinib) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
