Description
Orencia SC (Abatacept) is an antirheumatic agent. It is typically used to treat the symptoms of moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis (long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints) and psoriatic arthritis (a condition involving joint inflammation (arthritis) that usually occurs in combination with a skin disorder called psoriasis). It may also have other uses.

Orencia SC (Abatacept)'s dosage depends on the condition/body weight. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It is given as an intravenous (into a vein) injection. Your doctor or nurse will administer Orencia SC (Abatacept) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Use caution with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, a chronic inflammatory lung disease), higher incidences of adverse effects have been observed, monitor closely. Use with caution in elderly patients. In addition to its desired action, Orencia SC (Abatacept) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, fatigue, flushing, headache, heartburn, nausea, sore throat. It may cause high blood pressure, urinary tract infection, hypersensitivity reaction. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to abatacept or any ingredients of the medication, people who have or are at risk of sepsis syndrome (an infection that spreads through your body), such as people with weakened immune systems and people with HIV (a virus that attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS). Taking Orencia SC (Abatacept) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Orencia SC (Abatacept) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Orencia SC (Abatacept)
