Description
Pentoxifylline SR (Pentoxifylline sustained-release) is a hemorrheologic agent. It is typically used for the management of intermittent claudication (an aching pain in the legs when walking or exercising that goes away at rest). It may improve function and symptoms, but it is not intended to replace more definitive therapy. It may also have other uses.

Pentoxifylline SR (Pentoxifylline sustained-release) is typically used 3 times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. It is preferably taken with meals. Swallow whole, do not chew, crush, or divide. An aluminum and magnesium hydroxides antacid can be administered concomitantly to reduce intolerable stomach and intestinal effects. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with mild to moderate hepatic (liver) impairment. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. In addition to its desired action, Pentoxifylline SR (Pentoxifylline sustained-release) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea and vomiting Contraindications: Patients previously exhibiting intolerance to pentoxifylline, xanthines (e.g., caffeine, theophylline), or any component of the formulation, recent cerebral (in the brain) and/or retinal hemorrhage (bleeding from the blood vessels in the retina, inside the eye). Additional Contraindications: Acute MI (myocardial infarction or heart attack), severe coronary artery disease (cardiac vessels disease) when myocardial (heart) stimulation might prove harmful, peptic ulcers (stomach or intestinal lesion) Taking Pentoxifylline SR (Pentoxifylline sustained-release) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Pentoxifylline SR (Pentoxifylline sustained-release) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
