Description
PPC Folic Acid (Folic Acid) is a vitamin supplement. It is typically used to treat megaloblastic anemia (when the body produces unusually large, structurally abnormal, immature red blood cells) and macrocytic anemia (when the body has overly large red blood cells and not enough normal red blood cells), caused by a deficiency or low levels of folic acid or folate. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
PPC Folic Acid (Folic Acid)'s dosage depends on the condition (usual range: 0.4 mg/day - 1 mg/day). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It is given by a doctor or a nurse as an injection into the muscle (intramuscular), into the vein (intravenous) or under the skin (subcutaneous). WARNING: Pregnant women are more prone to develop folate deficiency which can lead to complications. All women planning a pregnancy or who may potentially become pregnant should begin folic acid supplementation prior to conception. In case the anemia is caused by a deficiency in vitamin B12, folic acid should not be used alone. When cholestyramine (a cholesterol-lowering medication) and folic acid are administered together, there may be a reduction or delay in the folic acid absorption. Folic acid should be administered at least 1 hour before and 4 hours after cholestyramine. In addition to its desired action, PPC Folic Acid (Folic Acid) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause malaise, slight flushing (skin blushing), redness, itchiness, or skin rash. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to folic acid or any component of the formulation. Adequate and well-controlled studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters). If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with PPC Folic Acid (Folic Acid) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.PPC Folic Acid (Folic Acid)
