Prepidil (Dinoprostone) is an oxytocic agent. It is typically used by pregnant women to relax the muscles of the cervix (the lower, narrow part of the uterus, the uterus is where a fetus (unborn baby) develops and grows) in preparation for inducing labor (childbirth) at the end of a pregnancy. It may also have other uses.

Prepidil (Dinoprostone)'s dosage depends on condition (usual dosage: 0.5 mg). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Prepidil (Dinoprostone) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Use caution in patients with cardiovascular (heart) disease. Use caution in patients with hepatic (liver) impairment. Use caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. Use caution in patients with a history of asthma (a condition that affects the airways in the lungs). In addition to its desired action, Prepidil (Dinoprostone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypertonic contractions in the uterus (high contractions), back pain, diarrhea. It may cause cough, vaginal pain, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, fever. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to prostaglandins or any component of the formulation, unexplained vaginal bleeding. Taking Prepidil (Dinoprostone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Prepidil (Dinoprostone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
