Description
Prozac (Fluoxetine) is an antidepressant. It is typically used to treat depression and helps to elevate mood. Fluoxetine is also used to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (a disorder in which people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively (compulsions)) as well as to treat eating disorders. It may also have other uses.

Prozac (Fluoxetine) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. It is usually taken as a single dose in the morning. Take this medicine at the same time each day. Administer without regard to meals WARNING: Caution operating hazardous machinery or driving. Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, severe renal (kidney) impairment, in patients with a previous seizure disorder or conditions predisposing to seizures such as brain damage or alcoholism. In addition to its desired action, Prozac (Fluoxetine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause decreased libido, anorexia (lack or loss of appetite for food), diarrhea, nausea, sexual disorder, anxiety, drowsiness It may cause headaches, insomnia, nervousness, yawning It may cause asthenia (abnormal physical weakness or lack of energy), tremor, pharyngitis (sore throat) It may cause chest pain, hypertension (high blood pressure), skin rash, heavy menstrual bleeding, increased thirst, weight loss It may cause constipation, vomiting, ejaculatory disorder, impotence, abnormal dreams, abnormality in thinking, agitation, dizziness Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or any component of the formulation, initiation of fluoxetine in a patient receiving linezolid or intravenous methylene blue, use with Pimozide or thioridazine Taking Prozac (Fluoxetine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Prozac (Fluoxetine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
