Description
Pulmozyme (Dornase Alfa) is mucolytic agent (agent that is able to break down mucus). It is typically used to treat cystic fibrosis (an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs). It may also have other uses.

Pulmozyme (Dornase Alfa) is typically inhaled orally once daily using a recommended nebulizer/compressor system. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Once ampoule is opened, the entire contents must be used or discarded. Do not dilute or mix with any other drugs in the nebulizer, this may inactivate the drug. WARNING: Patients should be instructed in the proper use and maintenance of the nebulizer and compressor system used. In addition to its desired action, Pulmozyme (Dornase Alfa) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause chest pain, cough, difficulty breathing, fever, heartburn, voice disorder. It may cause rash, red eyes or swelling of the eyelids, runny nose, cough. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dornase alfa, or any component of the formulation Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Pulmozyme (Dornase Alfa) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
