It is typically used to prevent rejection (rejection is when your body’s immune system recognizes a new organ as a “foreign” threat and attacks it) in people 13 years of age and older who have received a kidney transplant (a surgical procedure to place a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor into a person whose kidneys no longer function properly). It may also have other uses.
