Description

Salazopyrin EN tab (Sulfasalazine enteric-coated) is an anti-inflammatory agent. It is typically used to treat ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease which are inflammatory bowel diseases (disorders that cause chronic inflammation in the intestines). It is also used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which is a painful joint disease. It may also have other uses.

Salazopyrin EN tab (Sulfasalazine enteric-coated)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Salazopyrin should be swallowed whole after meals with a full glass of water.
WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in patients with severe allergies or bronchial asthma (disease of the lungs). Use with caution in patients with G6PD deficiency (a genetic disorder that mainly affects red blood cells, which carry oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout the body), hemolytic anemia (a blood disorder that occurs when your red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be replaced) may occur.
In addition to its desired action, Salazopyrin EN tab (Sulfasalazine enteric-coated) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause skin rash, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
It may cause headaches, abnormal liver function tests, dizziness, loss of appetite.
It may cause fever, increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to sulfasalazine, similar agents, or any component of the formulation, intestinal or urinary obstruction, porphyria (a group of liver disorders in which substances called porphyrins build up in the body, negatively affecting the skin or nervous system).
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor.
