Sandomigran DS (Pizotifen double-strength)

Sandomigran DS (Pizotifen double-strength) is typically used as a single dose at bedtime or in 3 divided doses, doses >3 mg should be administered in divided doses (maximum dose: 6 mg/day). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. It can be taken with or without food. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular (heart) problems. Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar level). Use with caution in patients with epilepsy (disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal).
In addition to its desired action, Sandomigran DS (Pizotifen double-strength) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause weight gain, increased appetite.
It may cause nausea, xerostomia (dry mouth).
It may cause dizziness (weak or unsteady), drowsiness (feeling abnormally sleepy during the day).
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to pizotifen or any component of the formulation, concurrent use of MAO inhibitors (antidepressants), gastric outlet obstruction (a blockage of the path from the stomach to the small intestines), use in children <12 years of age. Taking Sandomigran DS (Pizotifen double-strength) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
