SDZ Heparin NA (Heparin)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer SDZ Heparin NA (Heparin) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with an increased risk of bleeding. Use with caution in elderly patients. In addition to its desired action, SDZ Heparin NA (Heparin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (an adverse reaction to the drug heparin resulting in an abnormally low amount of platelets. Platelets are colorless blood cells that help blood clot). It may cause chest pain, trouble breathing. It may cause dark urine, black stools, severe headache, bleeding. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to heparin or any component of the formulation, severe thrombocytopenia, history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, uncontrolled active bleeding, not for use when appropriate blood coagulation tests cannot be obtained at appropriate intervals (Coagulation tests measure your blood’s ability to clot, and how long it takes to clot. Testing can help your doctor assess your risk of excessive bleeding or developing clots (thrombosis) somewhere in your blood vessels). Taking SDZ Heparin NA (Heparin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product.
