Description

Skyrizi (Risankizumab) is an immunomodulatory agent. It is typically used to treat to treat adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, an inflammatory condition affecting the skin and nails. Plaque psoriasis can cause raised, thick, red and scaly patches (“psoriatic lesions”) that can appear anywhere on your body. It is also used to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory disease of the joints, usually accompanied by psoriasis. Psoriatic arthritis can cause pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints, in addition to a disruption in daily activities and fatigue. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Skyrizi (Risankizumab) is typically injected subcutaneously (under the skin). After the first dose of 150 mg, a second dose is given after 4 weeks. After that, Skyrizi is given every 12 weeks. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Skyrizi is administered by subcutaneous injection in the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. It is important to change the injection site you're using, rotating between sites, to reduce the risk of fat wasting at the injection site. Avoid injecting into areas that are tender, bruised, or affected by psoriasis. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: This medication can increase the risk of developing an infections. Skyrizi should not be given to patients with any clinically important active infection until the infection resolves or is adequately treated. Prior to initiating therapy with Skyrizi, completion of all appropriate immunizations should be considered according to current immunization guidelines. Skyrizi should not be used with live vaccines. 

In addition to its desired action, Skyrizi (Risankizumab) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause frequent flu-like symptoms (sudden lack of energy, fever, cough, sore throat, stuffy nose).
It may cause headaches, tiredness.
It may cause pain or redness at the injection site, itching, small, raised bumps on the skin.
 
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to risankizumab or any component of the formulation.

Taking Skyrizi (Risankizumab) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
