Somatuline (Lanreotide)

Additional information

Somatuline (Lanreotide)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once every 14 days or every 30 days. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating).

WARNING: Use with caution in patients having liver, kidneys and heart diseases. Use with caution in patients with diabetes (a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood, may require dosage adjustments in antidiabetic therapy). These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Somatuline (Lanreotide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may bradycardia (low heart rate), hypertension (high blood pressure) and headache.
It may cause rash at injection site, hyperglycemia (high sugar blood level), hypoglycemia (low sugar blood level) and weight loss
It may cause diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting, flatulence and nausea
It may cause anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues), muscle pain and inflammation at the site of infection. 

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to lanreotide or any component of the formulation. Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to somatostatin or related peptides, complicated, untreated bile duct lithiasis (common bile duct stone)

Taking Somatuline (Lanreotide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.
