Description
Sporanox (Itraconazole) is an antifungal agent. It is typically used to treat infections in adults caused by fungi, which can invade any part of the body including the lungs, mouth or throat, toenails, or fingernails. It may also have other uses.

Sporanox (Itraconazole)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug with a full meal. WARNING: May cause central nervous system depression, which may impair physical or mental abilities, patients must be cautioned about performing tasks that require mental alertness. Use with caution in patients with heart problems. Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other azoles (similar agents). In addition to its desired action, Sporanox (Itraconazole) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, nausea, edema (swelling), dizziness. It may cause headaches, depression, fatigue, urinary tract infection. It may cause chest pain, high blood pressure, skin rash. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to itraconazole or any component of the formulation, concurrent administration with some medications (avanafil, cisapride, disopyramide, dofetilide, dronedarone, eplerenone, ergot derivatives, felodipine.), concurrent administration with some medications (colchicine, fesoterodine, or solifenacin) in patients with varying degrees of renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment, treatment of onychomycosis (fungal disease of the nails) in patients with evidence of ventricular dysfunction (heart disease), treatment of onychomycosis in women who are pregnant or contemplating pregnancy. Taking Sporanox (Itraconazole) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Sporanox (Itraconazole) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
