Description
Stelara (Ustekinumab) is an immunosuppressant agent (agent that suppresses the immune response). It is typically used to treat plaque psoriasis (long-term skin disease in which the skin cells grow faster than normal) by adults and children who are at least 6 years old, it is also used by adults to treat moderately to severely active Crohn’s disease (disease that causes inflammation and irritation in the digestive tract) after other medicines have been tried without success. It may also have other uses.

Stelara (Ustekinumab)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer by subcutaneous (under the skin) injection into the top of the thigh, abdomen, upper arms, or buttocks. Rotate injection sites. Do not inject into tender, bruised, erythematous, or indurated skin. Avoid areas of skin where psoriasis (a skin disease) exist. Discard any unused portion. Intended for use under supervision of physician, self-injection may occur after proper training. WARNING: May increase the risk for infections or reactivation of latent (dormant) infections, if a serious infection or clinically significant infection develops, consider discontinuing STELARA until the infection resolves. STELARA may increase risk of malignancy (cancer), use with caution in patients with prior malignancy. In addition to its desired action, Stelara (Ustekinumab) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause infection, headache and fatigue. It may cause fever, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting. It may cause dizziness, acne, redness at injection site. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ustekinumab or any component of the formulation. . Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Stelara (Ustekinumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
