Description

This medication is a topical antibiotic agent. It is typically used for the treatment of small lacerations (a cut, skin wound), sutured wounds or abrasions (wearing off of the skin). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Stramucin (Mupirocin) is typically applied three times daily. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Apply a small amount of the cream to the affected area 3 times daily for up to 10 days, depending on the response. You can cover the area treated with a gauze dressing.
WARNING: The use of this medication occasionally allows the overgrowth of organisms which are not killed by the medication. If your condition worsens or does not improve in the expected time, consult your doctor.
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause dry skin, skin burning, itching, pain, rash, redness, stinging, or swelling
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

Warning

Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing side effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your doctor or pharmacist. He or she can help you to determine whether or not the medication is the source of the problem.
