Description

Tranexamic Acid (Tranexamic Acid) is an antifibrinolytic agent. It is typically used to prevent or reduce bleeding in certain conditions, such as dental surgery for people with hereditary blood clotting disorders, cervical surgery, heavy menstrual bleeding, nose bleeds, and bleeding inside the eye. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Tranexamic Acid (Tranexamic Acid) is typically used two to three times daily (2-3 tablets). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to meals. Swallow tablet whole, do not break, chew, or crush.
WARNING: Use with extreme caution in patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation (serious disorder in which the proteins that control blood clotting become overactive) requiring antifibrinolytic therapy, patients should be under strict supervision of a healthcare provider experienced in treating this disorder. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment, dosage modification necessary. This medication increases the chance of blood clot formation, causing reduction of blood flow to organs or the extremities. If you have a history of clotting you may be at increased risk of experiencing blood clot-related problems such as heart attack, stroke, or clots in the deep veins of your leg. Hormonal birth control, such as birth control pills, increase the risk of developing blood clots. If you are using a form of hormonal birth control, discuss with your doctor how Tranexamic Acid (Tranexamic Acid) may affect your medical condition.
In addition to its desired action, Tranexamic Acid (Tranexamic Acid) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause abdominal pain, headache, back pain, musculoskeletal pain (pain that affects the muscles, ligaments and tendons, and bones).
It may cause nasal signs and symptoms, fatigue, pain in the joints, muscle cramps, muscle spasm. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid or any component of the formulation, history or are at risk of forming blood clots, active blood clotting conditions, bleeding into the lining surrounding the brain, blood in the urine.
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
