Description
Translarana (Ataluren) is an agent used to treat a genetic condition. It is typically used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy in children 5 years of age and older who have a specific genetic mutation known as a nonsense mutation in the dystrophin gene. This disease causes muscle weakness and loss of function due to a lack of a protein called dystrophin. In DMD, a genetic mutation prevents the production of dystrophin, leading to the breakdown of muscle tissue over time. It may also have other uses.
