Description

Trimethoprim (Trimethoprim) is an antibiotic. It is typically used for treat urinary tract infections, such as cystitis (inflammation of the bladder wall). Occasionally, trimethoprim is used to treat other types of infections, such as chest infections and acne. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Trimethoprim (Trimethoprim) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to food, may administer with milk or food if stomach upset occurs.
WARNING: prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection (additional infection). Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, renal (kidney) impairment. Elderly patients may be at risk for hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood) with trimethoprim use. Not indicated for prevention or prolonged administration in otitis media (inflammation or infection located in the ear) at any age.
In addition to its desired action, Trimethoprim (Trimethoprim) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause itching and rash, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, changes in taste, headache It may cause skin sensitivity to sunlight, swollen tongue, fever It may cause hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood), hyponatremia (decreased sodium levels in the blood)
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or any component of the formulation, megaloblastic anemia (a condition in which the bone marrow produces abnormal red blood cells) due to folate (vitamin) deficiency
Taking Trimethoprim (Trimethoprim) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.
