Description
Vaniqa (Eflornithine) is a hair growth inhibitor. It is typically used to slow the unwanted hair growth in the face and neck of women. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Vaniqa (Eflornithine) is typically applied as a thin layer to affected skin on the face and neck twice a day, at least 8 hours apart. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Rub in thoroughly to make sure the medication enters the skin. Try not to wash areas with eflornithine for at least 4 hours after applying the medication. Avoid applying eflornithine near the eyes or nose or broken skin. Eflornithine can be applied 5 minutes after other hair removal techniques (e.g., shaving). After eflornithine has dried, you may apply sunscreens, moisturizers, or cosmetics over the treated area. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: This medication does not work right away. Actual results may vary, but signs of improvement can be seen as early as 4-8 weeks of treatment. If no improvement is seen after 6 months, eflornithine therapy should be stopped. If skin irritation or intolerance develops, temporarily reduce the frequency of application (e.g., once a day). In addition to its desired action, Vaniqa (Eflornithine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause acne, burning, tingling sensation, dry skin, or ingrown hair. It may cause itchiness, rash, or skin irritation. It may cause redness of skin, or skin inflammation. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to eflornithine or any component of the formulation. Taking Vaniqa (Eflornithine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Vaniqa (Eflornithine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Vaniqa (Eflornithine)
