Description
Venofer (Sucrose Iron) is an iron agent. It is typically used for the treatment of iron-deficiency anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body’s tissues in chronic kidney disease). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Venofer (Sucrose Iron) is typically used during consecutive dialysis sessions, the usual cumulative total dose is 1,000 mg (10 doses), may repeat treatment if clinically indicated. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your nurse will administer it for you. WARNING: Risk of hypotension (low blood pressure), monitor for signs and symptoms of hypotension (low blood pressure). Hypotension (low blood pressure) may be related to total dose or rate of administration (avoid rapid IV injection). Excessive iron therapy may lead to excess storage of iron in the body. Do not administer iron in the presence of iron overload and monitor blood cells counts. In addition to its desired action, Venofer (Sucrose Iron) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypotension (low blood pressure) and muscles cramps. It may cause nausea, lung infections, dizziness, chest pain and low blood sugar level. It may cause vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to iron sucrose or any component of the formulation. Iron overload, anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues in chronic kidney disease) not caused by iron deficiency. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Venofer (Sucrose Iron) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Venofer (Sucrose Iron)
