Verzenio (Abemaciclib)

Additional information

"Verzenio (Abemaciclib) is typically used twice a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Take exactly as your healthcare provider tells you, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole. Do NOT chew, crush, or split the tablets. Do NOT take damaged tablets. If you vomit after taking a dose, take your next dose at your regular time. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. 

WARNING: Avoid getting pregnant while receiving this medicine and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose of Verzenio (Abemaciclib). If you have not gone through menopause, you should have a pregnancy test done before you start treatment with Verzenio (Abemaciclib). Talk to your healthcare professional about the best birth control for you. Verzenio (Abemaciclib) may cause harm to your unborn child. If you become pregnant, inform your doctor right away. Do not breast-feed your baby during treatment with Verzenio (Abemaciclib) and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose.  Verzenio (Abemaciclib) can cause diarrhea. It may be severe at times. The most common time to start having diarrhea is during the first month of treatment.

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, bloating, abdominal pain
It may cause headache, dizziness, sense of spinning
It may cause hair loss or thinning, tiredness, fatigue, muscle weakness. 
It may cause rash, dry, itchy, infected or darkened or painful skin, bruising.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Abemaciclib or any component of the formulation. 

Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments."
