Description
Viberzi (Eluxadoline) is a gastrointestinal agent. It is typically used for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea by adults (IBS-D). IBS-D is a type of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in which abdominal pain or bloating symptoms happen along with stools that are often loose or more frequent than usual. It may also have other uses.

Viberzi (Eluxadoline) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Eluxadoline should be taken with food. If you miss a dose, and it is less than 4 hours since the missed dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is more than 4 hours since the missed dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. WARNING: Eluxadoline may cause severe constipation in some people. If you experience symptoms of severe constipation such as difficulty passing stool, sudden stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or a bloated stomach, contact your doctor immediately. Eluxadoline may affect the mental or physical abilities needed to drive or operate machinery. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other potentially hazardous tasks until you have determined how you are affected by Viberzi (Eluxadoline). Use with caution in patient with liver impairment. In addition to its desired action, Viberzi (Eluxadoline) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, intoxicated feeling, sedation, skin rash It may cause constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, bloating It may cause upper respiratory tract infections (coughing, runny nose, sneezing and throat pain), runny or stuffy nose Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to eluxadoline or any component of the formulation, patients without a gallbladder, known or suspected biliary duct obstruction, history of pancreatitis (inflammation in the pancreas) or structural diseases of the pancreas, alcoholism, alcohol abuse, or alcohol addiction, or in patients who drink >3 alcoholic beverages per day, severe liver impairment, history of chronic or severe constipation, gastrointestinal obstruction (known or suspected). Taking Viberzi (Eluxadoline) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Viberzi (Eluxadoline) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Viberzi (Eluxadoline) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
