Description
Viracept (Nelfinavir) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used in combination with other medications to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS). It may also have other uses.

Viracept (Nelfinavir) is typically used two or three daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with a meal. If unable to swallow tablets, you may dissolve tablets in a small amount of water, mix cloudy liquid well and consume immediately. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with hemophilia A or B (an inherited bleeding disorder). In addition to its desired action, Viracept (Nelfinavir) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain. It may cause anxiety (a feeling of worry), dizziness (weak or unsteady), drowsiness (feeling abnormally sleepy during the day), headache, insomnia (difficulty sleeping). It may cause skin rash, abnormal hepatic function tests. Contraindications: Clinically significant hypersensitivity to nelfinavir or any component of the formulation, coadministration with some medications (such as amiodarone, bepridil, flecainide, propafenone, quinidin, ergot derivatives, cisapride, St. John’s wort, lovastatin, simvastatin, lurasidone, pimozide, sildenafil, midazolam, and triazolam). Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Viracept (Nelfinavir) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
