Description

Viroptic (Trifluridine) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used to treat certain eye infections caused by a virus (herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Viroptic (Trifluridine) is typically given as one drop into the affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake (up to a maximum of 9 drops per day). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Before instilling these eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. To avoid contaminating the eye drops, do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including your eye or finger. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. 

WARNING: This medication may cause mild local irritation of conjunctival (the tissue that covers the surface of the eyeball) and cornea (the clear outer layer at the front of the eye) may occur when instilled, effects are usually transient.

In addition to its desired action, Viroptic (Trifluridine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause burning or stinging, or mild irritation of the eye.
It may cause swelling and redness of the eyelid.

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to trifluridine or any component of the formulation.

Taking Viroptic (Trifluridine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.

A treatment with Viroptic (Trifluridine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Viroptic (Trifluridine)
