Visanne (Dienogest)

Visanne (Dienogest) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer preferably at the same time each day with liquid and without regard to meals. Tablets should be taken continuously regardless of any vaginal bleeding. If vomiting and/or diarrhea occur within 3 to 4 hours of administration, repeat dose.
WARNING: Use with caution in patients with multiple risk factors for heart disease (older age, increased blood pressure, diabetes, women who smoke), discontinue if clinically significant hypertension (increase in blood pressure) develops during therapy. Use with caution in patients with depression. Not indicated for use in the elderly population. Women should be advised not to smoke. Not intended for use as a contraceptive. In addition to its desired action, Visanne (Dienogest) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, depression, disturbed sleep, migraine It may cause acne, breast changes, weight gain, ovarian cyst (sacs, usually filled with fluid, in an ovary or on its surface), decreased libido
It may cause nausea, abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, weakness Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dienogest or any component of the formulation, undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, active venous thromboembolic disorder (blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the lower leg, thigh, or pelvis), history of or current heart disease, history of or current severe liver disease, history of or current hepatic (liver) cancer, known or suspected sex-hormone-dependent malignancy (cancer), some eye problems, breastfeeding, known or suspected pregnancy
Taking Visanne (Dienogest) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Visanne (Dienogest) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Visanne (Dienogest)
