Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength (Diclofenac Diethylamine) is typically used twice daily (2 g in the morning and 2 g in the evening). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. After applying the gel, wash your hands, unless the area being treated is part of the hand. Do not apply This medication to infected, abraded, or open skin. Do not apply to skin rashes or eczema. Do not use dressings that do not breathe (allow air to contact the skin) on top of Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength (Diclofenac Diethylamine).
WARNING: As with other anti-inflammatory medications, rarely, diclofenac gel can cause difficulty breathing. If you have asthma (a respiratory condition marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing), discuss with your doctor. If you have stomach or intestinal ulcer (lesions) or a history of them, discuss with your doctor. This medication may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Children less than 18 years of age should not use the higher strength products. The safety and effectiveness of Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength (Diclofenac Diethylamine) have not been established for seniors.
In addition to its desired action, Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength (Diclofenac Diethylamine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause application site irritation (e.g., redness, itching), increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, blistering skin at the application site, skin rash
Contraindications: Do not use if you are allergic to diclofenac or any ingredients of the medication, are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, ketorolac), are taking another NSAID (painkillers), are using or taking other products containing diclofenac, experience asthma attacks, itchiness, or runny nose after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs, are in the third trimester (last 3 months) of pregnancy, have recently had coronary bypass grafting surgery (open heart surgery)
Taking Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength (Diclofenac Diethylamine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
