Description
Xenical (Orlistat) is a lipase inhibitor agent. It is typically used for obesity management. It may also have other uses.

Xenical (Orlistat)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given three time daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer it during or up to 1 hour after meals. WARNING: Monitor patients with diabetes (high blood sugar levels) closely, weight loss may affect glycemic control (blood sugar levels). Dosage adjustments of antidiabetic (medication that treat high blood sugar levels) medications may be necessary. Cases of severe liver injury (some leading to death) have been reported. Use with caution in patient having kidney and liver impairments. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Xenical (Orlistat) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, fatigue, anxiety and sleep disorders. It may cause xeroderma (extreme dryness of the skin), menstrual disease and hypoglycemia (low sugar blood level). It may cause back pain, leg pain, myalgia (muscle pain) and urinary infections. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergy to orlistat or to any component of the formulation, pregnancy, chronic or long term malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis (liver problem that slows or stops the normal flow of bile from the gallbladder and causes itching and yellowing of your skin, eyes, and mucous membranes). Taking Xenical (Orlistat) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Xenical (Orlistat) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
