Description
Xolair (Omalizumab) is an anti-asthmatic agent. It is usually used to treat moderate to severe asthma (a disease that affects your lungs) that is caused by allergies by adults and children who are at least 6 years old, whose symptoms are inadequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids. It is also used to treat chronic idiopathic urticaria (a disturbing allergic condition of the skin). It may also have other uses.

Xolair (Omalizumab)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Xolair (Omalizumab) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: XOLAIR is not used to treat sudden breathing problems. Use with caution in patients at high risk for parasitic infections (an infectious disease caused or transmitted by a parasite). In addition to its desired action, Xolair (Omalizumab) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause injection site reaction, headache, viral infections. It may cause alopecia (hair loss), dermatitis (skin irritation), pruritus (severe itching of the skin). It may cause upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infection, sinusitis (inflammation of a nasal sinus). Contraindications: Severe hypersensitivity reaction to omalizumab or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Xolair (Omalizumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
