Description
Zaxine (Rifaximin) is an antibiotic. It is usually used to prevent recurring episodes of a condition called hepatic encephalopathy (a decline in brain function that occurs as a result of severe liver disease), and to treat irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (disorder that affects the large intestine) by adults. It may also have other uses.

Zaxine (Rifaximin)'s dosage depends on the condition (two or three times daily). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug with or without meal. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. In addition to its desired action, Zaxine (Rifaximin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause depression, headache, diarrhea, ascites (a condition in which fluid collects in spaces within your abdomen). It may cause dizziness, fatigue, dizziness, skin rash, depression, fever, dyspnea (shortness of breath). It may cause nausea, abdominal pain, peripheral edema (swelling), anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to rifaximin, other rifamycin antibiotics, or any component of the formulation. Taking Zaxine (Rifaximin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Zaxine (Rifaximin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
