Description

Zepbound (Tirzepatide) belongs to a class of medicines called GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is typically used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It lowers blood sugar by helping your body release more insulin when blood sugar is high. It also reduces levels of glucagon, a hormone that prevents blood sugar from decreasing too much. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Zepbound (Tirzepatide) is typically injected once a week at any time of the day, with or without food. Always inject on the same day each week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Set a reminder on a calendar to remind yourself of your weekly dose. Do not use the same site for each injection. Change your injection site with each weekly injection. Each month, you will use 1 multi-dose prefilled pen. Each KwikPen contains enough medication for 4 doses. If you miss a dose and it has been 4 days (96 hours) or less since you should have used Zepbound (Tirzepatide), use it as soon as you remember. Then, inject your next dose on your usual scheduled day. If it has been more than 4 days (96 hours) since you should have used Zepbound (Tirzepatide), skip the missed dose. Then, inject your next dose on your usual scheduled day. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Tirzepatide, the medicinal ingredient in Zepbound, increased the risk of developing thyroid C-cell tumors in rats. It is not known if the risk seen in rats applies to humans. It is uncertain if Zepbound (Tirzepatide) may increase your risk for developing thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma. Avoid becoming pregnant while you are taking Zepbound (Tirzepatide). Use effective birth control during treatment and at least one month after your last dose. If you are using oral hormonal drugs as a birth control method, it is recommended to switch to a non-oral hormonal birth control medicine or add a barrier method of birth control (e.g., condoms). Use this method for 4 weeks when beginning treatment with Zepbound (Tirzepatide) and for 4 weeks after each time your dose is increased. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) may affect your ability to concentrate. Avoid driving or using machines if you get any signs of low blood sugar.

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause bruising, pain, or irritation at the injection site.
It may cause constipation, diarrhea, decreased appetite, bloating, stomach pain, and weight loss.
It may cause gas (flatulence), increased heart rate, reflux, or heartburn – also called gastro-esophageal reflux disease, and indigestion.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to tirzepatide or any component of the formulation; you or a member of your family has ever had Medullary Thyroid Cancer (MTC); you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2); you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
