Description
Eylea (Aflibercept) is an ophthalmic agent. It is typically used to treat neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is a deterioration of the macula, a part of the eye that is responsible for sharp, detailed vision. This medication is also used to treat visual impairment due to macular edema (swelling) caused by diabetes, macular edema caused by vein occlusion in the central retinal vein or one or more of the main branches of the retinal vein, and myopic choroidal neovascularization (a severe form of nearsightedness). It may also have other uses.

Eylea (Aflibercept)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given once every month. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Aflibercept will be administered to you by a doctor. Very careful handling of Eylea (Aflibercept) is required. It is always given under the supervision of a doctor in a hospital or similar setting with access to sterile equipment for preparation and administration of Eylea (Aflibercept). WARNING: The risk of blood-clot-related problems such as stroke, heart attack, or clots in the deep veins of your leg may be increased with Eylea (Aflibercept). Aflibercept can cause eye problems such as infection of the inside part of the eye, pain or redness, detachment or tear of the retina, or clouding of the lens. If you experience eye pain, increased eye discomfort, worsening eye redness, blurred or reduced vision, increased sensitivity of the eyes to light, or an increase in the number of small particles in your vision, contact your doctor immediately. In addition to its desired action, Eylea (Aflibercept) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause eye pain, eye bleeding and foreign body sensation of eye It may cause eye inflammation, blurred vision, increase pressure in the eye and water retention in the eye. Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity or severe allergy to aflibercept or any component of the formulation, current eye infection and/or eye inflammation. Taking Eylea (Aflibercept) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Eylea (Aflibercept) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
