Description
Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is an anticholesterol agent. It is typically used for the treatment of high level of cholesterol in the blood. It may also have other uses.

Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is typically used once daily for the management of high level of cholesterol in the blood. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food, may take without regard to time of day. Avoid concurrent intake of large quantities of grapefruit juice while taking atorvastatin since it will impact its level in the blood. WARNING: Use atorvastatin with caution in patients having diabetes mellitus since it has been reported that it increases the blood glucose levels. Use with caution in patients who consume large amounts of ethanol or have a history of liver disease, use is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease. In addition to its desired action, Lipitor (Atorvastatin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, infections, neuromuscular and skeletal pain (pain in the muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, and nerves) It may cause insomnia, nausea, high blood sugar levels. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any component of the formulation, active liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Taking Lipitor (Atorvastatin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Lipitor (Atorvastatin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
