Description
Betnesol (Betamethasone) is a corticosteroid agent. It is typically used to treat ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in your digestive tract). It may also have other uses.

Betnesol (Betamethasone) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: If you have been using Betnesol (Betamethasone) for longer than 2 weeks, do not stop using Betnesol (Betamethasone) without first checking with your doctor. Your doctor may want you to reduce gradually the amount you are using. Prolonged use of corticosteroids such as betamethasone may cause cataracts, glaucoma, eye infections, and stomach ulcers. Your doctor may monitor you for these problems during treatment. In addition to its desired action, Betnesol (Betamethasone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness, increased sweating, thin, fragile skin, and unusual weight gain. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (severe allergy) to any component of the formulation, intramuscular administration contraindicated in immune thrombocytopenia (deficiency of platelets in the blood. This causes bleeding into the tissues, bruising, and slow blood clotting after injury. Herpes simplex (viral infection) of the eye, systemic fungal infections, vaccinia, cerebral (brain) malaria, use in areas with local infection. Taking Betnesol (Betamethasone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Betnesol (Betamethasone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
