Description
Cystadane (Betaine) is a homocystinuria agent. It is typically used for the treatment of homocystinuria (an inherited disorder in which the body is unable to process certain building blocks of proteins properly). It may also have other uses.

Cystadane (Betaine)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food immediately after reconstitution. WARNING: Use of betaine may cause large increases of plasma methionine concentrations which may cause cerebral edema (water retention in the brain). Betaine anhydrous, a prescription medication indicated for the treatment of homocystinuria and betaine hydrochloride, a nutritional supplement, are not to be used interchangeably. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Cystadane (Betaine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, dysgeusia (bad taste in the mouth), stomach distress and nausea. Contraindications: There are no contraindications listed in the manufacturer’s labeling. Taking Cystadane (Betaine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Cystadane (Betaine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
