Description

Prolensa (Bromfenac) is an painkiller agent. It is typically used for the treatment of postoperative inflammation and reduction of ocular (eye) pain following cataract surgery (a surgical procedure to remove a lens in the eye that has become cloudy over time, affecting vision in that eye). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Prolensa (Bromfenac) is typically instilled as 1 drop into affected eye(s) once daily beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continue on the day of surgery and for 14 days postoperatively. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. For topical ophthalmic (eye) use only, wash hands prior to use. Remove contact lenses prior to administration and wait 10 minutes before re-inserting. may be used with other eye drops. If using more than 1 ophthalmic product, wait at least 5 minutes between application of each medication. Minimize contamination by not touching the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip, keep bottle tightly closed when not in used. Also, to minimize the risk of infection following surgery of both eyes, two separate bottles of eye drops (one for each eye) should be used, instruct patients not to use the same bottle for both eyes.

WARNING: Use with caution in patients with previous sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, phenylacetic acid derivatives, and other NSAIDs (painkillers and similar agents), including patients who experience bronchospasm (a tightening of the muscles that line the airways (bronchi) in your lungs), asthma (a respiratory condition marked by attacks of spasm in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing), rhinitis (sneezing, congestion, coughing, sinus pressure, itchy watery eyes, and itchy nose, mouth, and throat, and fatigue), or urticaria (hives) following NSAID or aspirin therapy.

In addition to its desired action, Prolensa (Bromfenac) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause eye inflammation, eye pain, feeling of something in your eye

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to bromfenac, or any component of the formulation.

Taking Prolensa (Bromfenac) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
