Description
Proleukin (Aldesleukin) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used to treat kidney cancer or skin cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It may also have other uses.

Proleukin (Aldesleukin)'s dosage depends on the condition and patient's weight. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or the nurse will administer Proleukin (Aldesleukin) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Use with extreme caution in patients with seizure disorder (a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain). Extreme caution should be used in patients with a history of prior cardiac (heart) or pulmonary (lungs) disease. In addition to its desired action, Proleukin (Aldesleukin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause low blood pressure, tachycardia (an abnormally rapid heart rate), infection, drowsiness, dizziness, heart diseases. It may cause weight gain, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, edema (swelling), skin rash, anxiety, pain, dyspnea (shortness of breath). It may cause hypomagnesemia (deficiency of magnesium in the blood), hypocalcemia (deficiency of calcium in the bloodstream), anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues). Contraindications: Known history of hypersensitivity to aldesleukin or any component of the formulation, patients with abnormal thallium stress (a imaging test that shows how well blood flows into your heart while you're exercising or at rest) or abnormal pulmonary (relating to the lungs) function tests, patients with organ allografts (tissue or organ transplanted from a donor of the same specie). Re-treatment is contraindicated in patients who have experienced serious heart problems or kidney failure requiring dialysis (treatment for kidney failure), intubation (a procedure that's used when you can't breathe on your own) for > 72 hours, coma (a state of profound unconsciousness caused by disease, injury, or poison) lasting > 48 hours, bowel perforation (a hole in either the small intestine or large intestine), gastrointestinal (stomach and intestine) bleeding requiring surgery. Taking Proleukin (Aldesleukin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Proleukin (Aldesleukin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
