Additional information
Plavix (Clopidogrel) is typically given once a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the whole tablet with a full glass of water. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Clopidogrel may increase the risk of bleeding. Using other medications (e.g., certain antidepressants or painkillers (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories NSAIDs)) may further increase the risk of bleeding. A rare blood disorder called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura may occur with Plavix (Clopidogrel), where blood clots form in small blood vessels throughout the body. Use with caution in patients with kidney disease. In addition to its desired action, Plavix (Clopidogrel) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause a changed sense of taste. It may cause constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, or heartburn. It may cause headaches, joint or muscle pain, nausea, or vomiting. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Clopidogrel or any component of the formulation. People with active bleeding (for example in the stomach, or in the brain) should not use Clopidogrel. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Plavix (Clopidogrel) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
