Description
Colestid (Colestipol) is a cholesterol-lowering agent. It is typically used with a proper diet to lower cholesterol in the blood. It may also have other uses.

Colestid (Colestipol) is typically used once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Tablets must be taken one at a time and be promptly swallowed whole, (if you are taking more than one tablet) using plenty of water or other appropriate liquid. Do not cut, crush, or chew the tablets. Take COLESTID Tablets with your meals. If you take COLESTID Tablets more than once a day, take one dose at breakfast or lunch, and a second dose in the evening. WARNING: Colestipol may cause or worsen pre-existing constipation. increase your fluid and fiber intake to prevent constipation, your doctor may also recommend a stool softener. In addition to its desired action, Colestid (Colestipol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause bloating, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness. It may cause fatigue, gas, headache, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea, rash. It may cause stomach pain, chest pain, vomiting, weakness. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to colestipol or any component of the formulation. Taking Colestid (Colestipol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Colestid (Colestipol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
