Description
Orgaran (Danaparoid) is a blood thinner. It is typically used to prevent blood clots in deep veins (deep vein thrombosis [DVT]) for people who are undergoing certain types of surgery. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Orgaran (Danaparoid) is typically given twice a day as a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Pinch a fold of skin in the lower (left or right) region of your abdomen. Choose a different injection site for each injection so that you are not always injecting the same area. Apply pressure to the injection site with the alcohol swab for 5 to 10 seconds. Do not rub the injection site. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: This medication can increase the risk of unwanted or uncontrolled bleeding, particularly if you have a bleeding disorder, ulcers (sores) of the digestive system, or a recent episode of bleeding after brain, spine, or eye surgery. Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment. Use caution in patients with or with a history of thrombocytopenia (low platelet level, involved in clotting) or platelet defects. In addition to its desired action, Orgaran (Danaparoid) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause pain, skin rash, nausea, or constipation. It may cause low blood pressure (hypotension), dizziness, or lightheadedness. It may cause infections, fever, or pneumonia (an infection that inflames the lungs' air sacs (alveoli)). It may cause difficulty in passing urine, back pain, or tingling sensations. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to danaparoid, or any component of the formulation (including sulfites). Do not use in case of history of thrombocytopenia while receiving danaparoid or when associated with a positive in vitro test for antiplatelet antibodies in the presence of danaparoid. Patients with major blood clotting and bleeding disorders should not use Orgaran (Danaparoid). Do not use in case of bacterial endocarditis (bacterial infection of the inner layer of the heart or the heart valves), active stomach or intestinal ulcer (lesion), surgery of brain, spinal cord, eyes, or ears, diabetic or hemorrhagic (bleeding) retinopathy (disease of the retina of the eye), severe uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), or other conditions or diseases that increase risk of hemorrhage. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Orgaran (Danaparoid) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Orgaran (Danaparoid)
