Description

Invanz (Ertapenem) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat severe infections caused by bacteria in the skin, lungs, stomach, and urinary tract. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Invanz (Ertapenem) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Invanz (Ertapenem) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment, dosage adjustment required in patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction. Use with caution in patients with central nervous system disorders (a group of neurological disorders that affect the structure or function of the brain or spinal cord) such as history of seizures (a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain). Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported in patients receiving therapy with beta-lactams (similar agents). If an allergic reaction to INVANZ occurs, discontinue the drug immediately.
In addition to its desired action, Invanz (Ertapenem) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause a decreased appetite, diarrhea, bradycardia (slow heart rate), abdominal or stomach cramps. It may cause fever, sleep disorders, vomiting, hypersensitivity reactions.
Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to any component of this product or to other drugs in the same class.
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Invanz (Ertapenem) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Invanz (Ertapenem)
