Description
Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used to treat hairy cell leukemia (type of blood cancer), malignant melanoma (skin cancer). It is also used to treat certain types of hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). It may also have other uses.

Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: This medication may cause or worsen autoimmune conditions (problems with the immune system, which usually fights off viruses, bacteria and infection). Use with caution and monitor closely in patients with coagulation disorders (a conditions that affect the blood’s clotting activities). Use with caution in patients with a history of diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar). Use with caution in patients with pre-existing thyroid disease (a conditions that affects the function of the thyroid gland). Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular (heart) disease, monitor closely this patients. In addition to its desired action, Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause high blood pressure, fast heart rate or abnormal heart beats, constipation, diarrhea, flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint aches). It may cause loss of appetite, muscle or joint pain, nausea, pain, redness, burning at the place of injection. It may cause sleeping problems, hair loss, vomiting, weight loss, blood problems, eye problems. Contraindications: if you are allergic to interferon or any ingredients of Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B), if you have autoimmune hepatitis (a chronic disease in which your body's immune system attacks the liver and causes inflammation and liver damage), if you have unstable liver disease. Taking Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Intron A (Interferon Alfa-2B)
