Description
Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) is typically used to treat bipolar affective disorder. It works by affecting the levels of certain chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. Bipolar disorder is characterised by extreme mood swings. The mood swings can range from extreme highs (mania) to extreme lows (depression). It may also have other uses.

Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) is typically used four times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. This medication should be taken with food. WARNING: If you have diabetes, your doctor should closely monitor your condition since Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) has an impact on your blood glucose (sugar) level. In addition to its desired action, Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause anorexia (loss of appetite for food) It may cause dizziness, dry mouth It may cause headaches, nausea It may cause constipation Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to tryptophan or any component of the formulation. Taking Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Tryptan (L-Tryptophan) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
