Description
Tykerb (Lapatinib) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used to treat a certain type of breast cancer that has progressed or spread after treatment with other cancer medicines. It may also have other uses.

Tykerb (Lapatinib) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 1 hour after a meal. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular (heart) problems. Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. In addition to its desired action, Tykerb (Lapatinib) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause fatigue, headache, decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (heart problem). It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, back pain, dyspnea (shortness of breath), insomnia (difficulty falling asleep). It may cause skin rash, alopecia (hair loss), xeroderma (dryness of the skin). Contraindications: Known severe hypersensitivity to lapatinib or any component of the formulation. Taking Tykerb (Lapatinib) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Tykerb (Lapatinib) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
