Jencycla (Norethindrone)

Jencycla (Norethindrone) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer at the same time each day with or without food. This packaging includes 28 active pills taken daily for 28 days. When you finish the 28 pill pack, start the next pack on the next day. Take one pill everyday. Do not wait any days between packs. Your period should occur during the last seven days of using the pill pack. Continue to take Jencycla every day, even if you are having some menstrual bleeding.
WARNING: The progestin-only pill such as Jencycla is slightly less effective than combination birth control pills. You may wish to use a second method of birth control (e.g. latex or polyurethane condoms and spermicidal foam or gel) for the first seven days of the first cycle of pill use. This will provide a backup in case pills are forgotten while you are getting used to taking them. Use with caution in patients with diabetes, depression, and liver impairment. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of serious problems with the heart and blood vessels. This risk increases with age and becomes significant after age 35. Do not smoke if you use Jencycla (Norethindrone), especially if you are over 35.
In addition to its desired action, Jencycla (Norethindrone) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause irregular or absence of menses It may cause your breasts to feel swollen and tender
It may cause headaches, dizziness
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to norethindrone or any component of the formulation, breast cancer (known, suspected, or history of), undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding, pregnancy. Benign or malignant liver tumors, acute liver disease.
Taking Jencycla (Norethindrone) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Jencycla (Norethindrone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Jencycla (Norethindrone)
